About the Event
At a time of political turmoil and division, there has never been a greater need for journalism that can be trusted. But journalism is in crisis - both economic and philosophical. We need good, enduring journalism. How do we encourage it?
Join us for lunch and conversation as ALEX S. JONES moderates a panel of journalists and explores this probe. Featuring JUDY MILLER and GERALDINE FABRIKANT.
Alex S. Jones is co-founder and co-executive editor of Daily Chatter, an email newsletter on international affairs, and is currently working on a memoir. In 2015, after serving for 15 years, he stepped down as director of the Shorenstein Center on Media, Politics and Public Policy and Laurence M. Lombard Lecturer in the Press and Public Policy at Harvard Kennedy School. He covered the press for The New York Times from 1983 to 1992 and was awarded the Pulitzer Prize in 1987. He is author of “Losing the News: The Future of the News that Feeds Democracy,” published in 2009, and with Susan E. Tifft, co-authored “The Patriarch: The Rise and Fall of the Bingham Dynasty” and “The Trust: The Private and Powerful Family Behind the New York Times.” Jones has been a host of NPR’s “On the Media,”and host and executive editor of PBS’s “Media Matters.” In 2011, he was awarded the DeWitt Carter Reddick Award by the University of Texas for career achievement and was elected to the American Academy of Arts and Sciences.He has served on the boards of the Committee of Concerned Journalists, International Center for Journalists, Foundation of the Society of Professional Journalists, Harvard Magazine, Black Mountain Institute, the Institute for Politics, Democracy & the Internet and other professional organizations.
